We Need Your Support!List Item 3
UCAN programming & services perception:
Social development, at its most basic level, simply suggests improving the conditions and quality of life of our population. Such as achieving higher levels of wealth, advancement in technology, and public policies that permit people to live better, to feed themselves better, to consume more, and to get sick less frequently.
Economic development is the process of transforming economies for those in which most people have minimal resources and choices to ones in which they have more useful resources and opportunities.
Community economic development is based on two essential beliefs. First, the community or neighborhood should be the focal point for developing human, social, and physical resources. (UCAN does so through our Faith-based organizations in communities of color). Second, the support, particularly human and organizational, must be the foundation of any developmental pursuit.
In our communities, economic development should be an approach to build new wealth using culturally-designed resources. These opportunities and resources can foster financial stability for our families and communities. Social, economic, and community economic development can be strategic approaches that restore pride and give minorities more economic power; to control their wellness and financial destiny.

Serve Committee or Advisory Council
An advisory committee is defined as a group that works with an agency, established by statute
or an agency official, to make recommendations on strategic issues or policies, which are
within the scope of the agency’s responsibilities. The group may be in the form of a committee,
board, commission, council, conference, panel, task force, subcommittee or other subgroup.
Usually advisory committees aim to represent a balanced point of view and may include
scientific members, legal council, lay members, business representatives, and consumer
advocates.
Serving on an advisory committee can broaden your view, enable you to do more than if you
work only with your organization, and give you new tools to improve the systems in which
you work. Balanced with your day-to-day work, this kind of service can catapult not only
your work, but that of systems in general.
